Accessibility Statement

The Ottawa International Airport Authority (YOW) is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We continually improve the user experience for everyone and apply the relevant accessibility standards.

Conformance status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA. yow.ca is partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 Level AA. "Partially conformant" means that some parts of the content do not fully conform to the accessibility standard.

Compatibility with browsers and assistive technology

yow.ca is designed to be compatible with the following assistive technologies:

  • NVDA on Chrome and Firefox (Windows)
  • VoiceOver on Safari (macOS, iOS)
  • The latest two versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge

Technical specifications

Accessibility of yow.ca relies on the following technologies:

  • HTML
  • WAI-ARIA
  • CSS
  • JavaScript

Limitations and alternatives

Despite our best efforts, some limitations remain:

  • Interactive Terminal Map (/map) — provided by a third-party vendor (Mappedin). Some keyboard and screen-reader interactions may not be fully accessible. We are working with the vendor to address these issues. Travellers who require an alternative format can contact the airport directly.
  • Mixed-language content — occasional short snippets in French within English pages (and vice versa) may not be programmatically tagged.

Assessment approach

yow.ca was assessed by:

  • An external accessibility audit conducted by ABE Factors (report ABEF2541600), completed November 2025
  • Self-evaluation using axe-core and Lighthouse automated testing
  • Manual screen reader testing with NVDA and VoiceOver
  • Manual keyboard-only testing
