Plane Pull Challenge 8 soared!

Published on September 14, 2013

The Ottawa International Airport Authority in partnership with the Ottawa Senators Foundation declared Plane Pull Challenge 8 to be a huge success!

Under mostly sunny skies, 28 teams and hundreds of spectators enjoyed the competition, food and friendship. Most importantly, an impressive $80,000 was raised for Project Clear Skies and the Ottawa Senators Foundation, bringing the total funds raised by plane pull events to $380,000 in eight years.

Competition was fierce as the teams fought the 80,000 lb Embraer E-190 – it was only 12 feet, but it seemed like 120! The results were as follows:

First Place:        West-Way Taxi                                               Time: 4.41seconds
Second Place:   ASIG Canada Ground Handling                     Time: 4.53 seconds
Third Place:       Riverside Pub                                                 Time: 4.57 seconds

”This is my first plane pull event, and I must say I was very impressed" said Mark Laroche, Airport Authority President and CEO. “From the organization, the team spirit and the generosity of our sponsors and partners, the event lived up to everything I had heard about it over the years. I’m very proud of my team and the difference that they have made in our community through this event.” “On behalf of the Ottawa Senators Foundation we’re very thankful for the support from the Airport Authority and all of the events sponsors and participants.” said Ottawa Senators Foundation president Danielle Robinson. “It was very humbling to see so many teams pulling for children in our community.”

OMCIAA operates Ottawa International Airport without government subsidies under an 80-year lease transfer agreement with Transport Canada. The OMCIAA’s mandate is to manage, operate and develop airport facilities and lands in support of the economic growth of the National Capital Region.
