The Ottawa International Airport Authority announced its results for the year ended December 31st, 2014 at its Annual Public Meeting.

Passenger volumes totaled 4,616,448 for the year, which represents a 0.83% increase over 2013. Domestic travel led the growth with an increase of 2.1% over 2013 figures. The volume breaks down as follows:

  • Domestic: 3,434,209 passengers
  • Transborder: 741,285 passengers
  • International: 440,954 passengers

Revenues in 2014 were 8% higher at $112.3 million compared to $104.1 million in 2013. The increase can mostly be attributed to an increase in the Airport Improvement Fee of $3 that was implemented in March 1, 2014. Expenses before depreciation of $83.1 million were 4% higher than in 2013. The Authority finished the year with earnings before depreciation of $29.2 million compared to $24.3 million in 2013. Net cash payments for capital expenditures during the year totaled nearly $53 million. Capital projects included Runway 14/32 rehabilitation, and a new Baggage Handling System.

“After a decline in passenger numbers in 2013, I am pleased with the growth, however slight, which signals an improving local economy” said Mark Laroche, President and CEO of the Ottawa International Airport Authority. He went on to say that the “continued growth improves the business case for additional air service and the funds available for reinvestment in the maintenance and operation of a world class facility, for the benefit of our clients.”

In 2014, the airport was also recognized with several Airport Service Quality (ASQ) awards, including:

  • 3rd place in the world for airports that serve between 2 and 5 million passengers
  • 5th place in North America (all airports)

In her first official role as the new Chair of the Board, Susan St. Amand expressed her pleasure with the awards. “The Airport Authority, and by extension the entire campus, continues to delight our customers, and I am very proud that we have again been recognized with two prestigious ASQ awards. More passengers mean more opportunities to provide a positive travel experience. I am confident that the airport team is ready to take on that challenge.”
