Airport Workers Day 2026

Thursday, June 25 marks the third Airport Workers Day in Canada, a campaign led by the Canadian Airports Council to celebrate the people who keep our aviation ecosystem moving.
Airports are complex, dynamic environments, and every flight depends on hundreds of coordinated touchpoints. At YOW, that includes flight operations, security, finance, catering, aircraft maintenance, emergency response, long‑term planning, parking, health and safety, concessions, human resources, business development, law enforcement, cleaning services and many more specialized teams.
Together, airport workers form the backbone of Canada’s air transportation system. Their expertise ensures the safe and seamless movement of people and goods across the country and around the world.
To recognize their contributions, the Ottawa International Airport Authority (Authority) welcomed Mr. Sundae to campus, offering cool treats to employees as a small token of appreciation for the essential work they do every day.
This year, YOW is also proud to celebrate one of our own. Thitola Thach, Manager, Learning and Development with the Authority was recognized nationally with the Excellence in Efficiency Optimization award, honouring her level‑headed leadership, organized approach and strong commitment to continuous improvement. Thitola was presented with the award by the Honourable Steven MacKinnon, Minister of Transport and Government House Leader, alongside Authority President and CEO, Susan Margles. Thitola takes her role to heart, helping streamline processes and enhance learning across the Authority. Her dedication reflects the very best of what Airport Workers Day is meant to celebrate.
