Millwright



The Ottawa International Airport Authority (Authority) is accepting applications for a full-time Millwright. As a Millwright and integral member of our Infrastructure team, you will play a critical role in keeping the Airport running smoothly. You will perform preventive maintenance and repairs on mechanical equipment that directly supports airport operations, airline services, and tenant facilities—ensuring safety, reliability, and efficiency across this dynamic environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair airport machinery, mechanical systems, and equipment in accordance with layout plans, schematics, and OEM manuals, utilizing specialized diagnostic and repair tools (e.g., laser alignment systems, CWS software, laptops, hand and power tools, and welding equipment)
- Maintain and repair airport infrastructure, including manual, sliding, motorized, and overhead doors; perimeter gates; baggage system and passenger loading bridges, encompassing bearings, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems and mechanical components
- Diagnose equipment malfunctions, identify root causes, and complete necessary mechanical adjustments or component replacements
- Install and fit bearings, align gears, shafts, motors, couplings, and belt systems
- Operate hoisting and lifting equipment (up to 50 tons) to safely position machinery and components
- Operate elevating work platforms, articulating booms, forklifts and boom trucks
- Inspect, maintain, and repair escalators, elevators, air-handling units, exhaust fans, and exhaust rail systems throughout the terminal
- Inspect and maintain fire and life safety systems, including fire separations, fire extinguishers, and smoke exhaust fans
- Perform work in challenging environments, including extreme cold, elevated work areas, and remove snow and ice around the terminal
- Coordinate with and provide technical assistance to contractors, including instruction on system operations as required
- Participate in required in-house training programs and ongoing on-the-job skills development
- Accurately document activities and inventory in the computerized maintenance management system, and other software systems

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
- Secondary school diploma OR Ministry-approved equivalent
- License from a recognized apprenticeship program (433A or 426A-Millwright)
- Eligibility to obtain an Interprovincial Red Seal (partial)
EXPERIENCE
- Operations, maintenance and repair of hydraulic conveyor, and heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems
- Specialized knowledge of the principles underlying mechanical work
- Knowledge of industrial heating, cooling and ventilation systems, elevating devices and controls i.e. electricity, electronic, pneumatic and hydraulic
- Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions involved in mechanical equipment and elevated work platforms
SKILLS
- Strong coordination, vigilance, and situational awareness in active airside and operational environments
- Work efficiently within established timelines and respond to operational priorities
- Manual dexterity and safe proficiency with electric, hydraulic, and pneumatic tools
- Mechanical aptitude, including fabrication, repair, and troubleshooting of equipment and systems
- Read and interpret blueprints, work instructions, and technical documentation
- Strong mathematical skills, including calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages
- Using drawings and precision measuring tools
- Safely work at heights and in confined or restricted spaces
- Commitment to safe work practices and maintaining focus in high-stress environments
- Excellent customer service skills to interact with the public during active repairs
- Work independently and collaboratively within a multi-trade, team-based environment
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, flexibility, and ability to manage changing priorities

- Excellent communication skills in English.

ABOUT THE POSITION
Salary
$86,938 to $98,262 per year in accordance with the current Collective Agreement (July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2028 rates)
Job requirements
- Have a valid driver’s license (Class G or equivalent)
- Provide a driver’s abstract (issued within the last month)
- Successfully obtain:
- A security clearance check for an Airport Restricted Area Identity Card (RAIC)
- An Airside Vehicle Operators Program (AVOP) permit
