Tips for travelling during the holidays
The Airport Authority wants to make sure that you enjoy your journey, not just your destination this holiday season.
Since this is the busiest time of the year, we’ve prepared a list of tips that might make your passage through the airport a little smoother.
In addition to packing your patience, and we also hope that you:
- Plan ahead - be aware of your airline’s baggage weight limits and other restrictions;
- Ensure you have the proper ID;
- Pack smart - familiarize yourself with what you can and can’t take in your carry-on luggage. Visit www.catsa-acsta.gc.ca for details. If you plan to take gifts in your carry-on, please don’t wrap them; they may need to be inspected which could ruin your wrapping efforts;
- Give yourself extra time to get to the airport;
- Save yourself time and check-in online;
- Store your winter gear at the airport during your trip. A family of four can store their coats and boots for $30 per week at PARS 2000, located in the arrivals area on Level 1;
- Take advantage of the Passenger Concierge Service if you need a helping hand getting through the terminal. Visit www.savm.ca for details;
- Charge up your device while you wait to board your flight;
- Reserve your parking online and save - the earlier you book, the more you save;
- Download our free app, YOW - Ottawa Airport, to get flight-specific alerts, details about our concessions, and information about parking and ground transportation options to help you travel more comfortably and worry-free;
- Purchase those last-minute gifts at one of our specialty boutiques: Metalsmiths Sterling, Boutique iStore, The Scoreboard or HBC;
- Order your foreign currency online at www.ice-canada.ca and pick it up at the airport prior to travelling;
- Sit back and enjoy a meal, snack or beverage. There’s something for all appetites; and
- Enjoy Christmas entertainment between December 20 and 24.
If you’re travelling with children:
- Drop by one of the two information desks and pick up a copy of the Airport Authority’s activity book. Children will love the 26-page book illustrated by local artist Jennifer Nicol that tells the story of Professor Uplands and his class trip to Toronto; and
- Check out the ‘Travelling with Kids’ section of our website at https://yow.ca/en/travel-planning/travelling-kids
