Holiday travel at YOW

Published on December 18, 2019

The Airport Authority wants to make sure that you enjoy your journey, not just your destination this holiday season.

We’ve decked our halls and we have once again invited local musicians to perform Holiday music in the terminal. There will be carolers, pianists, horns, a barbershop quartet, and a mariachi band. Performers will be at YOW between December 19 and 24. The schedule is available on our website.

Since this is the busiest time of the year, we want to make the passage through the airport as smooth as possible for travellers. In addition to packing your patience, we have prepared a list of top 10 tips to help passengers prepare for their trip:

  1. Plan ahead – be aware of your airline’s baggage weight limits and other restrictions;
  2. Ensure you have the proper ID;
  3. Pack smart – familiarize yourself with what you can and can’t take in your carry-on luggage. Visit www.catsa-acsta.gc.ca for details. If you plan to take gifts in your carry-on, please don’t wrap them; they may need to be inspected which could ruin your wrapping efforts;
  4. Give yourself extra time to get to the airport;
  5. Save yourself time and check-in online;
  6. Store your winter gear at the airport during your trip. PARS 2000 is open 24/7 and is located in the arrivals area on Level 1;
  7. Take advantage of the Passenger Concierge Service if you need a helping hand getting through the terminal. Visit www.savm.ca for details;
  8. Charge up your device while you wait to board your flight;
  9. Reserve your parking online and save – the earlier you book, the more you save; and
  10. Order your foreign currency online at www.ice-canada.ca and pick it up at the airport prior to travelling.

If you’re travelling with children:

  • Drop by one of the two information desks and pick up a copy of the Airport Authority’s activity book. Children will love the 26-page book illustrated by local artist Jennifer Nicol that tells the story of Professor Uplands and his class trip to Toronto; and
  • Check out the ‘Travelling with Kids’ section of our website at www.yow.ca/en/travel-planning/travelling-kids.
