Senior Financial Analyst – Business planning and analysis


The Ottawa International Airport Authority (Authority) is accepting applications for a Senior Financial Analyst – Business planning and analysis position.
Reporting to the Director, Finance, the Senior Financial Analyst – Business planning and analytics will play a pivotal role in leading the financial management of the Authority’s Capital Program, providing financial analysis support in relation to budgeting, forecasting, and Terminal Expansion Project (TEP) requirements. This individual will act as a key resource creating and maintaining complex financial models to support financial forecasts and strategic business initiatives including updating the 30-year model with sensitive and secured information in line with the strategic planning and future planning for the Authority.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Capital Program financial management
- Administer and drive the Capital Program financial processes (budget, forecast, analysis and reporting)
- Provide analysis and financial support to project managers and to senior management for purposes of monitoring and managing the Authority’s capital project portfolio
- Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual capital project financial reporting
- Prepare timely and accurate capital cash flow analysis and associated tracking, and reporting
- Review capital expenditures to ensure that they meet the definition of capital assets in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
- Problem solve with the finance team and internal clients (i.e. project managers), document account histories and provide clients detailed descriptions of account status when disputes or contentious issues arise (examples include insurance claims, claims for recoverable amounts)
- Support activities related to the management of construction in progress and transfers of completed assets from construction in progress to completed assets
- Record and analyze depreciation of fixed assets
- Ensure asset disposals are properly recorded
- Produce and oversee working papers required for external audits as they relate to capital projects
- Ensure that the Authority’s Fixed Asset Accounting Policy is up-to-date and ensure compliance with this policy
- Develop, create and maintain the passenger forecasting model (based on confidential information from air carriers) to provide meaningful insight into short and long-term passenger volumes. This model is critical to the organization’s budget and forecast process and is relied upon by senior management for decision making purposes
Passenger forecasting, financial analysis and decision support
- Assist in the development, preparation and reporting of the annual budget and forecast processes with respect to revenues, operating expenses and capital expenditures which includes access to payroll information and strategic financial information
- Assist in tracking, monitoring and reporting business and financial performance metrics as it relates to meeting goals and objectives
- Develop, create and maintain complex financial models to support financial forecasts and strategic business initiatives including updating the 30-year model with sensitive and secured information in line with the strategic planning and future planning for the Authority
- Leverage technology and people to employ best practices, maximize process efficiencies and prepare insightful and meaningful operational reports, integrity of data and ability to troubleshoot variance
- Prepare and perform financial performance analysis and benchmarking, create reports and presentations and communicate variances and suggest corrective actions needed to meet strategic objectives
- Research, review, analyze and explain actionable cause and effect relationships when assessing performance outcomes and strategic initiatives
- Support the preparation of confidential financial statements for the Authority’s pension plan, including disclosures and reporting for the governing regulator (Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions [OSFI])
- Assume all other duties and responsibilities inherent to the position

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
- University degree in finance, accounting, economics, business administration, or a related field
- Holds or close to be granted a recognized professional accounting designation or advanced degree – CPA, MBA
- Minimum of five (5) years of related experience
- Experience in budgeting and forecasting process, financial business analysis and reporting
- Excellent analytical skills, strong understanding of analytical concepts and well developed and creative problem-solving skills
- Experience in extracting, organizing and synthesizing large volumes of data into concise yet insightful reports and presentations
- Strong knowledge of financial regulations and compliance standards
- Strategic thinking
- High attention to detail and integrity
- Solid knowledge of Microsoft Suite and an advanced working knowledge of Excel and accounting programs and/or systems
- Excellent communications and written skills in English
- Valid driver’s license (Class G or equivalent)
ASSETS
- Bilingualism (English and French)
- Experience with corporate performance reporting tools and KPI analysis
- Experience in working with business cases and financial assessment of projects
- Familiarity with project management concepts and methodologies
- Experience with ERP systems
