Ottawa International Airport Authority reports on a great 2018
The Ottawa International Airport Authority announced its results for the year ended December 31st, 2018 at its Annual Public Meeting today.
Figures
- Passenger volumes totalled 5,110,801 for the year, which represents a 5.6% increase over 2017. Transborder traffic (to the U.S.) led the way with a fantastic 11.3% increase. The record-breaking total breaks down as follows:
- Domestic: 4,002,209 passengers (4.9% increase);
- Transborder: 720,770 passengers (11.3% increase); and
- International: 387,822 passengers (2.5% increase).
- Revenues were 4.1% higher at $138.1 million compared to $132.6 million in 2017. The significant increase in passenger volumes contributed to the positive impact on aeronautical and non-aeronautical revenues. The focus on generating non-aeronautical revenues is important because it helps keep our aeronautical costs as low as possible for the benefit of our airline partners and passengers.
- Earnings before depreciation totalled $38.3 million, with net earnings after depreciation of $7.0 million. In accordance with the Authority’s mandate, all earnings are retained and reinvested in airport operations and development, including investment in capital assets, to meet ongoing operating requirements.
Highlights
We are extremely proud of the results achieved in 2018, including the following highlights:

“There is no question that 2018 was a great year for the Ottawa International Airport with record passenger volumes, a first place finish in our category in the Airport Service Quality benchmarking program, and the launch of YOW+,” said Mark Laroche, Ottawa International Airport Authority President and CEO. “I am pleased to say that thanks to positive financial results related to growth in passengers and non-aeronautical revenue generation, the Authority is able to maintain aeronautical fees at 2018 rates for this year which will benefit our airline partners and ultimately our passengers.”
